The Science Programme Committee of ESA approved in May 1998 the
transfer of the Archive of IUE to the Laboratorio de
Astrofísica Espacial y Física Fundamental (LAEFF)
of INTA. As a consequence a Transfer Programme was started at
LAEFF under contract to ESA with the goal of
passing the responsibilities for the maintenance of the Archive
and the associated distribution system, the INES System, from
the ESA IUE Project to the LAEFF.

The INES System version 3.0 includes the following new features:

    - Built-in Name Resolver.

    - New Homogenization of object Names and Coordinates.

    - Search by list of objects.

     - Plots including errors and quality flags.

     -
Bibliographic references have been updated up to October
2000. There are 66683 entries giving a reference between
IUE images and 3725 published papers in the main
        Journals.

      -
National Host and Principal Centre software, version 3.0, was
developed jointly by ESA and LAEFF under the "INES Transfer
Programme". It was developed from the INES version 2.0,
        written by I. Skillen.

Major components of the system are:

      - Linux - RedHat
           distribution (6.x) operating system.

      - Apache HTTP server.

      - MySQL relational
           database management system.

      -
        PERL, the
Programmable Extraction and Reporting Language with the
Database Interface (DBI) and Data Base Driver (DBD)
modules, and the Common Gateway Interface (CGI).

      -

CFITSIO, library to handle the FITS data format.

      - PGPLOT,
           as graphic subroutine library.

The INES System version 2.0 was a major upgrade of the
previous prototype release (1.0) developed under the
framework outlined above. The main features in this version
      were:

      -
The data set contained 110033 images. There were 1419
images which could not be included due to several
problems, like missing raw data or processing problems.
These images are considered as non-existent.

      -
Bibliographic references were updated up to December
1998. There were 60849 entries giving a reference between
IUE images and 3585 published papers in the main
        Journals.

      -
Documentation and on-line help were improved.

      -
A HelpDesk facility, based on JitterBug, was
        implemented.

      -
National Host and Principal Centre software, version 2.0,
was written under contract to ESA (I.Skillen,
LoA-PX026980, PX006990). It was developed from the
INES prototype, version 1.0, which was written by M.
        Barylak and I. Yurrita.
